George Plimpton is perhaps best known for his series of books in which he would document his follies and foibles as he tried to compete against professional athletes in sports such as baseball, football, hockey, etc. His work has has become the prototype for "Reporter's Notebook" style stories. These are usually told from the first person and often accompanied with poor quality photos snapped by the reporter instead of a professional photographer (or even a competent amateur).
When I found out that my plane was going to have a layover in Minneapolis/St. Paul instead of Detroit, I immediately recognized the opportunity to pull a Plimpton of my own. In a well publicized case, Senator Larry Craig pled guilty to disorderly conduct when he was busted in a men's bathroom sex sting in the Twin Cities airport.
I decided that during my layover I would go into the same bathroom as Senator Craig and go through the same series of motions he used to solicit sex. I predicted that I would either a) get some action, or b) get arrested.
